Support for the Journey
Hundreds of refugees are resettled each year in Dallas after fleeing persecution in their own home countries. Refugees often arrive with little to no English, limited familiarity with U.S. culture, and no financial resources. Their resettlement journey is long and full of challenges.
You can make that journey easier.
Volunteer to support newcomers as they rebuild their lives, and help us continue the over 40-year tradition of welcoming refugees to Dallas.
Volunteer Requirements
If you would like to volunteer directly with clients, we ask that volunteers:
- Attend a volunteer orientation/training
- Complete a background check
- Are 18 years old or older
If you would like to volunteer directly with clients, for their safety and confidentiality, we ask that volunteers: Attend a volunteer training; Sign the CWS Dallas Volunteer Policy Agreement; Complete a Background Check; Be at least 16 years of age (those who are 16-18 must volunteer with a parent or guardian)"

Requirements for Minors
For any volunteers under the age of 18, please note the following guidelines:
- Any volunteer under the age of 18 will not need to undergo a background check
- All minors will be required to complete our volunteer intake form
- All minors and parents/guardians must sign the CWS Minor Volunteer Policy
- Minors under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times during volunteer shift
- Minors may not be left alone with clients. They must be supervised by a parent/guardian or staff member at all times
- Minors are not permitted to access any confidential client information
- Minors are not permitted to drive as part of their CWS volunteer duties
